During each week of our final semester, we produced a script and presented it live in front of a studio audience. This involved discussions around adverts, interviews with creative professionals and weekly ‘quick brief’ challenges. This maniacal time pressure got us used to 3 am phone calls and an attitude of ‘making it work’. It rounded out our skill sets with an understanding of the TV and video production process. We know how studio lighting is controlled, video is edited and audio is recorded. We can both read and operate a teleprompter, contribute to set design and present under pressure (it was live – if we stuffed up, people would see it!). We aren’t experts, but we added a whole new side to our vernacular that we can use to better communicate with other creatives and production staff.
